Financial Information
Once it has been determined that you need an operation, my staff will be able to
provide you with a cost estimate for your surgery. This can be a confusing area
and the office staff will readily offer you assistance in navigating the financial part
of your surgery. This includes help with paper work, hospital admissions, medical
fund rebate and the like.
With respect to billing, conventional fees are approximately AMA rates, and I
am
happy to negotiate all fees with all patients, especially if their GP indicates
a special
need for cases of genuine financial hardship. All patients undergoing elective
surgery
are given written fee quotations well in advance, such that gap-fees are known
preoperatively, and again, these can be negotiated to agreed figures in the case
of
special financial requirements. DVA, TAC and WorkCover patients are treated at
no personal charge for consultations or surgery. However, out-of-pocket fees
payable
by the patient may apply for medicolegal and industrial reports for DVA, TAC and
WorkCover patients, where the requesting solicitor, TAC and WorkCover Insurer
do not fully meet our fees with their subsidy. It is expected that any such
out-of-
pocket fees for medicolegal work will be paid in advance of the report being
forwarded to the requesting solicitor, office or department.
Finally I can arrange free (public hospital) treatment and surgery for uninsured
patients if they request this, at the Austin Hospital/ Austin and Repatriation
Medical Centre".
